ABOUT ZICHRON YAAKOV
Zichron Yaakov is a unique town in Israel. Nestled on a Carmel Mountaintop overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from one side and the Jezreel Valley from the other, the air is different here. Those who come here love its history, diversity, and boutique shops. One of the very first ‘modern’ settlements in Israel, the town was founded in 1882 by just 100 Jewish pioneers. French Jewish philanthropist and winemaker Baron Edmond James de Rothschild came to Zichron Yaakov on a visit to Israel. Upon visiting, he discovered that the area offered superb wine-growing properties.
He generously supported the establishment of vineyards to support the town and named the town in memory of his father, Yaakov. Rothschild went on to found what is still one of Israel’s top wineries, the Carmel Winery. The Rothschild Family Legacy continues today with the upkeep of the established stunning private nature reserve in Zichron, Ramat HaNadiv. The entire State of Israel might not exist today if it wasn’t for the bravery of the Nili Spy Ring based out of Zichron Yaakov between 1915 and 1917. The Jewish espionage network assisted the United Kingdom in its fight against the Ottoman Empire for land during World War I.
Today Zichron is a bustling town with a relaxed vibe. We have many active members, including dog owners who enjoy our green belt trails. Ample parks give great play spaces for everyone, including many soccer, football, and basketball players. We often have outdoor venue concerts and Art festivals. Our Midrachov pedestrian street is home to over 30 boutique shops and restaurants. Many love the proximity to one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Israel, Dor Beach. Among our many amenities, we have a Country Club replete with a gym, pools, and classes.
We are anything but homogeneous. You can find Dati Leumi, Charedi, and Non- affiliated Jews all living together here with respect and friendliness. There is every kind of Synagogue here Ashkenazi, Chabad, and Sephardi. Likewise, we have outstanding schools here for each sector. A Farm School hosts Kindergarteners thru 2nd Graders from all schools weekly, teaching children horticulture and animal husbandry. We also have a very active retired population that enjoys a robust social life. The housing here is just as varied. There are private villas, duplexes, multi-family homes, and apartments.
